Running in Berkeley

This weekend we were in Northern California for soccer, but I was able to get away for a run with our assistant coach, Isabelle, and audio/video guy, Bob. We went up into the hills in the campus of UC Berkeley and ran around for a while, then went jogged back up to our hotel in Emeryville, about 9-10 miles in all, and it was great to get out and see some of the campus!

Whoopie: Twenty-Three!

Today was our 23-mile "Red Run". We all wore red to make a giant "AIDS Ribbon" through Santa Monica. It was cool to se everybody coordinated, and it made it easier to tell when we ran by the other people in our training program (usually there are so many runners in Santa Monica in the morning, it's hard to tell). It was an overcast morning, with rain when I woke up that turned into a light drizzle that continued for the whole morning. It was great running weather becasue it didn't get too hot,in fact we ran the 23-miler faster than we had run the 20-miler!

Christina was the only other person from my pace group who showed up today, but we had a lot of fun (including having fun with the "LA Leggers", another training program that runs in Santa Monica, and has enormous groups of people running in a huge pack, and some of them have their names printed on their shirts, so we'd run by and say "Hey! Larry! Looking Good!" or "Whoa, Eva! Too Fast!") and we had some really great conversation.

We're getting so close to the marathon, I can almost taste it; only 1 more long run before the actual marathon (26-Mile "Celebration Run" on November 12). I can't wait!

AIDS Fact:
More than 1,700 children under the age of 15 years are infected with HIV every day.

TERRIFIC TWENTY

This week we ran twenty miles! The 20-miler had been postponed from last week because of smoke from the fires in the area that was making the air quality bad. So we were all itching to get back out on the road! There we only 4 of us in my pace group, but we had some really great conversation as the run went along!

Rory, Sally, Me and Camilla

The week before last I participated in the Nike RunHitWonder 10k race around the USC area, it's a nike-sponsored race that has different Bands stationed all around the course. It was so much fun and the music and huge mass of people made the run seem to fly by!
